Open Range Gravel Race

April 27 @ 8:00 am - 8:00 pm

$50 – $70

Open Range Gravel Race

After an AWESOME first year, we are back for the 2nd go-around!  Over 280 registered in 2018 and we expect 2019 to be even better.  Spaces will be limited so signup early.  Open Range is situated perfectly between Land Run and Dirty Kanza to provide racers of all skill levels an outstanding event in a fun and friendly atmosphere.  We take pride in our hometown, grass-roots race and have some of the best volunteers around.

Open Range Gravel Race is the only 200 km race in the Gypsum Hills of South Central Kansas.  The OR200k course is also one of the most diverse in the nation.  The Kansas Gypsum Hills were named by Bicycling Magazine the most beautiful ride in the state.  There will be sand, red dirt, gravel, brick, asphalt, flat roads, and hills.   Riders will experience around 4000′ of climbing on the 200k route (~126 miles).  The sandier roads are generally packed well in the lanes with very few spots of soft sand.  The ratio of gravel to pavement is about 65/35 to allow for all riders the opportunity to experience a great race (the average finish time in 2018 was over 14mph).  With access to some of the most beautiful private ranches, racers on the OR200k will see vistas rarely seen by the general public.

For those looking for a shorter course with a smaller sampling of the Gypsum Hills, there will also be a non-competitive 100 km course which will feature more of the High Plains section.  However, the best views will be on the 200k course.
