Hot on the heels of Cannondale’s recent announcement of the 2020 Topstone Carbon, it’s time to wrap up the review of the 2019 Topstone 105 we’ve been testing since early-May.
Named after a favorite gravel route near Cannondale’s headquarters, the Topstone is the company’s second gravel model. Unlike its stablemate, it cuts a more traditional ‘gravel bike’ profile, rolling on 700c wheels, with stated clearance for up to 42c tires.
With the proliferation of gravel events across the country and around the world, a handful of iconic events have risen to nearly cult-like status. The Land Run 100 is one such event. Since 2013, gravel cyclists have flocked to Stillwater, Oklahoma to race on a course that’s often muddy, and always challenging.

Without a doubt, there is a lot to like about the Cantu Rova wheelset. The weight is competitive, at 1567 grams for our set. While it’s true there are lighter options available, most aren’t using 35mm section, 30mm wide external/24mm internal width rims.
Here in the Midwest, having the right gear for winter cycling is the difference between truly enjoying rides and simply suffering through them. And while some cyclists simply hide indoors when the temps take a dive, I enjoy the fresh face snow and ice add to my familiar routes. As such, I’m always on the lookout for gear that makes my winter cycling adventures more enjoyable.
